[Albany, NY Airport] [Albany, NY Amtrak Station] [Bennington, VT] [Boston] [Hartford, CT] [New Jersey] [New York City] [Philadelphia, PA] [Saratoga Springs, NY] [Southern Connecticut] [Southern Maine] [Washington, DC] From BOSTON, MA Take Route 2 West to Greenfield, MA. At Greenfield, take I- 91 North into Vermont. Get off at Exit 2, Brattleboro. Go left at the end of the exit ramp, into downtown Brattleboro and follow the signs for Route 30 North. Take Route 30N for about an hour to Manchester Center, VT. Continue through Manchester (stay on Route 30N) another six miles to Dorset. Barrows House will be on the right and is marked by two stone pillars. Driving time: 3-3 1/2 hours back to top From SOUTHERN MAINE** Take I-95 south (in Maine), through New Hampshire to I-495 (in Massachusetts). Follow I-495 to the Route 2 West exit. Take Route 2 West and then follow the directions listed above from Boston. Driving time from Portland: 4 1/2 - 5 hours **there are a number of different ways to come from Maine. The one listed above is just the one we have found to be the simplest. back to top From ALBANY, NY AIRPORT Exit the airport and follow signs for I-87 North. Take I-87N to Exit 14: Saratoga Springs. Follow signs to Route 29 East, and continue with the directions listed below from Saratoga Springs. Driving time: 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Alternate Route from Albany Airport Exit the airport and follow signs for I-87 North. Take I-87 North to exit for Route 7 East to Troy. (exit #4) Follow Route 7 East through Troy into Vermont where it becomes Route 9. Follow to Bennington, VT. Follow directions listed below for Bennington, VT. back to top From SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY Take Route 29 East through Schuylerville and Greenwich, NY to Route 22 North (Route 29 ends at Route 22) Take Route 22N to Salem, NY (about 2 miles). Turn right at the light onto Route 153 and go to Rupert, VT. In Rupert, continue straight which is now Route 315 (do not go left on Route 153). Follow Route 315 about 5 miles to its end at Route 30. Turn right onto Route 30 South and go 2 miles to Dorset. The Barrows House is just past the village green on the left. It is marked by two stone pillars. Driving time: 1 hour back to top From ALBANY, NY AMTRAK STATION Turn left as you exit the train station parking lot and then turn left onto Broadway. Follow signs to Routes 20/43 (us will be turning right onto Routes 20/43). Take Routes 20/43 across the river via the Dunn Memorial Bridge and then follow signs for I-787 North. Take I-787 north to Route 7 East at Troy, NY. Follow Route 7 East which becomes Route 9 in Vermont to Bennington, VT. Follow directions below from Bennington, VT. Driving time: 1 1/2 hours. back to top From BENNINGTON, VT Take US Route 7 North. Follow Route 7 North to the Manchester Center exit. Exit onto Routes 11/30 and go into Manchester Center. Continue on Route 30 North from Manchester for about 6 miles to Dorset. The Barrows House will be on the right and is marked by two stone pillars. Driving time: 45 min. - 1 hour. back to top From NEW YORK CITY Take the Taconic Parkway North to the last exit before the Route 90 toll: Route 295 East. Take 295E (about 10 miles) to Route 22 North. Go north on Route 22 to NY Route 7 East, which becomes Route 9 in Vermont, to Bennington, VT. ** Continue north on Route 7 to Manchester Center, VT. Get off Route 7N at the Manchester Center exit and turn left onto Routes 11/30 North. Go through Manchester Center, staying on Route 30N. Take Route 30N from Manchester to Dorset (6 miles). The Barrows House is on the right and marked by two stone pillars. Driving time: 4 to 4 1/2 hours. Alternate Directions From New York City In poor driving weather, we strongly suggest that you avoid the Taconic Parkway route outlined above. Instead, follow either the directions from Southern Connecticut ( if possible, taking I-95 to I-91) or the following route: Take the New York Thruway North (I-87N) to the Albany exit for I-787N (exit 23). Follow I-787 North and exit at the city of Troy to NY Route 7 East, which becomes Route 9 in Vermont. Continue to Bennington, VT and follow the rest of the directions outlined above **. Driving time: 4 1/2 to 5 hours. back to top From HARTFORD, CT Take I-91 North to Vermont exit 2; Brattleboro. Go left at the end of the exit ramp, into downtown Brattleboro and follow signs for Route 30 North. Take Route 30N for about one hour to Manchester Center, VT and continue on Route 30 for another 6 miles to Dorset. The Barrows House will be on the right and is marked by two stone pillars. Driving time: 3 to 3 1/2 hours. back to top From SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT Take either the Hutchinson/Merritt Parkway North or I-95 North until you connect with I-91 North. The Merritt Parkway connects with I-91 at Meriden; I-95 connects with I-91 at New Haven. Take I-91 North to Hartford, CT. Then follow the directions from Hartford listed above. Take Route 22 East for 1 mile and take I-78 East to I-287 North in New Jersey. Follow I-287 to the New York Thruway (I-87N). Continue with the alternate directions from New York City listed above.
